Angry Birds 2
Review
Angry Birds 2 is a physics-based puzzle game where you launch birds from a slingshot to topple towers of green pigs and recover stolen eggs. The core experience builds on the original formula: each level presents a structure built from stone, wood, or ice, and your job is to destroy it by firing the right bird at the right spot. You can now choose which bird to fling next from a selection, rather than being locked into a predetermined order, which adds a layer of strategy to each attempt.
The main goal is to clear all pigs in a level, often across multiple stages within the same level. Boss Pigs appear in some stages and require extra hits. Progress is measured by stars earned from performance and by collecting feathers to level up your birds, which increases their scoring power. The game also includes daily challenges for quick rewards, an Arena mode for competitive play against other players, and a clan system where you can collaborate with friends and players worldwide.
Content is plentiful, with hundreds of levels and regular updates that add new stages and limited-time events. There are also collectible hats that let you change your birds’ appearances. Other side activities include Mighty Eagle’s Bootcamp, where you earn coins for a dedicated shop, and global leaderboards to compare scores. The game requires internet connectivity for most features and has a one-time download of additional content on first launch.
Controls are simple: you pull back the slingshot on the touchscreen to aim and release. Pacing varies by level, with some puzzles requiring careful aim and others rewarding quick trial and error. The game is free to play with optional in-app purchases, which may include loot boxes or random rewards. There is also an optional carbon offset tied to device energy consumption while playing.
Angry Birds 2 suits both newcomers and returning fans of the series. It offers a familiar physics puzzle experience with added strategic choice and plenty of ways to engage beyond the main levels. Players who enjoy short, repeatable challenges and collection systems will find a lot to do, though those sensitive to free-to-play monetisation should be aware of the optional purchases and random reward mechanics.
